So I’m now an officially Trusted Photographer by Google (well in-training but nearly there).

I’ve have been fielding phone calls from Google of late which seems a little surreal, but it’s been quite exciting to be honest. The world’s gargantuan search behemoth is rolling out its network of Trusted Photographers to help local businesses enhance their listings with full 360 virtual tours of their premises. And I’m here to help that.

So, currently, when you search for French restaurant in Dublin, you get:

- The lovely La Mere Zou popping up, it could have full 360 tours linked in there too, so as a potential punter you can have a quick look around, see it’s to your suiting, before booking.
Heck you could even request a specific table.

So the tours on Google Places look a like this from Spice Market in New York:

View Spice Market NY on a Larger Map

So they don’t really come much bigger than Wembley, either in size or stature.

Link

A top two meeting in the Aviva Premiership Rugby clash, had the mighty Saracens hosting Conor O’Shea’s in formHarlequins at a really enormous Wembley stadium, and ended up setting a new world record for attendance at a club rugby game.
The stadium itself is a sheer monument to organisation and design as it handled the crowds, the 1,500 rock choir, the 800 rugby school kids, a 15 strong motorbiking display team, Sarrie the camel and McFly.

The attendance ratcheted up to 83,761, which is just phenomenal, eclipsing Leinster vs Munster at Croke Park in the Heineken ERC by just a few handfuls. And hopefully everyone will login and Facebook tag themselves.

Unfortunately Quins decided to spoil the party, and not even Farrell’s valiant kicking attempts couldn’t catch Quins up but it was at least rewarded with a losing bonus point which pulls them up to second.
Saracens 19-24 Harlequins.

Had a chance to shoot another full super-high-resolution 360 FanPic for Huggity in Aviva Stadium last weekend. Thankfully Ireland notched up an impressive win against Scotland in the penultimate RBS 6 Nations weekender. Had superb view of Rory Best’s cracking try in the corner, and a reasonable view of everyone else in the stadium. We had a tiny glimmer of a blue sky and the stretch in the evening was massively beneficial just giving the photo the lick of colour any twilight photography wants.

This was out in Mongolia in 2003 which had nearly 200km of tarmacadamed road in a country 3 times the size of France. Pretty staggering place…
Looks like Fuji (scanning a print not a neg) and would have been from the ole Nikon FM2 a battle-horse of a camera, with an immensely satisfying shutter sound, though the smell from those camels managed to cloud my senses for a couple of days, if I recall.

I’m lucky enough to count LaRousse Foods as a regular client. They supply all the top restaurants around Dublin, I always see their vans in the morning shuttling boxes down back entrances to many a kitchen. Recently they’ve spread their services and now cater for the residential market. Anyways one of their big things is sourcing good produce and having excellent knowledge of their sources – this is key especially when restaurants really need to show providence of food. They asked me to shoot some stuff for their annual catalogue and this year it was special as they were celebrating 21 years in business – no mean feat. So I got a whistle stop tour of some of their suppliers and my favourite has to have been Pat.
He’s got a lovely spread out near Naas, where he delicately grows micro-herbs which are all the rage for cheffy chefs. These are tiny intense herbs that just accent a finished plate, really powerful stuff. He’s also got some lovely pigs and these lucky sows get to chow down on the excess trimmings from the herbs giving the meat a little extra hint of something. And as pigs they’re also great crack – loads of character.
