The missus just asked for a scan of this – she needed a photo of a camel not me.
This was out in Mongolia in 2003 which had nearly 200km of tarmacadamed road in a country 3 times the size of France. Pretty staggering place…
Looks like Fuji (scanning a print not a neg) and would have been from the ole Nikon FM2 a battle-horse of a camera, with an immensely satisfying shutter sound, though the smell from those camels managed to cloud my senses for a couple of days, if I recall.

I’m lucky enough to count LaRousse Foods as a regular client. They supply all the top restaurants around Dublin, I always see their vans in the morning shuttling boxes down back entrances to many a kitchen. Recently they’ve spread their services and now cater for the residential market. Anyways one of their big things is sourcing good produce and having excellent knowledge of their sources – this is key especially when restaurants really need to show providence of food. They asked me to shoot some stuff for their annual catalogue and this year it was special as they were celebrating 21 years in business – no mean feat. So I got a whistle stop tour of some of their suppliers and my favourite has to have been Pat.
He’s got a lovely spread out near Naas, where he delicately grows micro-herbs which are all the rage for cheffy chefs. These are tiny intense herbs that just accent a finished plate, really powerful stuff. He’s also got some lovely pigs and these lucky sows get to chow down on the excess trimmings from the herbs giving the meat a little extra hint of something. And as pigs they’re also great crack – loads of character.

So I photographed about 51,000 people the other day in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin at the Ireland vs. Wales game for Huggity. To be honest I was a little disappointed that work got in the way of watching what should have been a decent match and more importantly a score being settled after the Rugby World Cup. Still I didn’t really see any of the match, and some say I might have been lucky.
I think the image weighs in at around 16billion pixels, which we managed to knock out in 36hours or close- to be honest still emerging from post-production haze, and still am not too sure what day it really is.
